I am finally getting it!!!!
It has been over eight years since I taught 1st grade, and it has taken me just about eight weeks to get an idea of what I need to do. I have learned fast that my first graders need a lot of word study and picture cues. So, I have been very busy creating flash cards, and gluing and pasting. I don't think I have glued this much in ages. However, I am truly enjoying first grade :) my students are eager to learn and I look forward to teaching them daily. I have been blessed to use 10 ipads daily, my challenge with them is getting the most bang for my buck. Meaning I only get them for a few hours a day and I am trying to find a way to incorporate them better in my literacy block. I'll keep you posted on my ipad progress .

I just really can't wait to get my routines and procedures down for this yr!, I am sure I will figure it out soon, however school starts monday. :)(:

Getting Nervous
Although I have been teaching for years, I am getting nervous. Im teaching 1st grade this yr, and I really don't know what to expect, and what to plan. First grade is one of the most important grades because it's sets the foundation for students, and I don't want to hinder any of my students educational success. I am used to teaching intermediate, and as you know they come to me reading already. I am not sure if I want to focus on literacy stations or word work centers only, I have to decide school starts Monday.
Chocolate Polka Dots
I really fell in love with the polka dot theme, I completed by bulletin boards, however I don't like how the letters blend in, I am going to take them down and glue them to a white sheet of paper so they will pop.

Thinking about Read Alouds!!!
I am planning read alouds today for my first graders, and I think I am going to use the backwards design approach, and go research some classics to help me formulate a yearly overview for my students. I'll keep you posted on what I come up with for the year.

My First Post
Well I am totally new to posting, but not teaching. I have been in the field for over 20yrs, and each yr I learn something new. I began my career in preschool, than elementary. I taught primary for my first two yrs of teaching at the elementary level, and the past six yrs I have been teaching intermediate. Well, I am excited to say I am baaaaaaacccccccckkkkkkk to primary and very excited, but I feel like a brand new teacher. So I am starting to blog so I can discuss and get ideas from other primary teachers.
